Thanks so much for your pattern. I enjoyed making it and think it turned out ok. I have posted my project on my blog with a link back to your pattern: http://megsjshep.wordpress.com/2012/07/21/mens-beanie-hat/
ReplyDeletewhat is the size of this hat?
ReplyDeleteIn rnd 34 we crochet in the back loop which makes the hat go in...in your picture it looks like it comes out, like it's cuffed. What am I doing wrong??
ReplyDeleteMakes sure to TURN your work as directed. In other words, flip the hat around and start crocheting in the other direction, making the back loop the one on the exterior of the hat, rather than the interior.
ReplyDeleteI still don't get it (I'm new to crocheting). As I'm crocheting the crown, the inside of the hat is facing me, correct? When I turn it, the outside of the hat is now facing me (inside of hat is facing out) and the back loop is in now the interior of the hat...that's why mine goes in. What I've been doing is making a large cuff...but I don't think that's what the pattern is saying to do.

DeleteBeth,
DeleteIf you do all the directions and then turn the hat inside out it looks like the above picture. That's what happened with mine, and the inside actually looked better than the outside for me.
I am with a group that make hats for cancer patients and would like to include this pattern on our website when we get it up and running. Please contact me at CuddlesOfCourage@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteYeah...I'm so glad I read the comments! Why does this hat come together backwards and why is there no mention of that in the pattern?
ReplyDeleteIf your cuff is going on the wrong side I have to ask, are you left handed? I'm left handed and a lot of patterns I have to modify to make work.
ReplyDeleteIt might depend on which way you flip the work when it starts to curl: if you're working on the edge closest to you or if you turn the curl the other way and and work on the edge far away from you. I tend to work the edge closer to me, so in round 34 where it says to turn, that would make the edge far away from me, and my brim would therefore be on the outside.
ReplyDeleteThis hat is great for beginners! I followed the directions, and advice above, but the brim looks different than the pic. It still looks great, and the size is perfect for a man.
ReplyDeleteI just made this with the exact same yarn and followed the instructions and it turned out HUGE. I'm not really sure what I did.... I don't think I crochet really loosely or anything.
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern but it doesn't say where to switch colors?
ReplyDeleteIt tells you right at the beginning the rows to switch colours.
